Anastacia is making her comeback

Anastacia reveals she felt like she didn’t ‘fit’ in the music industry anymore.
Anastacia is making her comeback after three years with her huge record Evolution.

Her last release was in 2014, and in that time since she’s crafted new album Evolution, which is song after song of huge power tracks accompanied by big orchestral sounds and backing tracks, with her distinctive voice giving it the passion and depth – just listen to My Everything.

The lyrics are empowering, She spends the record singing about how she’s come out the other side of a tough few years. Stamina is a particular favourite song, where she sings ‘I need the stamina to hold on, I’ve gotta be stronger’, and it’s clear through every track on the record that she’s fought her way through, having survived breast cancer twice, leading her to undergo a double mastectomy, and battled daily with Crohn’s disease.

‘I’ve been through a lot, it’s a long time since I’ve felt empowered.’ she exclusively told Metro.co.uk. ‘The journey of the last year and a half was starting my greatest hits tour, taking a break to do Strictly, and find my inner female. All of it was searching for the person I lost along the way. The artist, the female, the love for this business that’s changed so much. I needed to find how to love it in another way.’ And she said Evolution was it. ‘I found my power. I found happiness.’

The most recent struggle the 49-year-old has been through was trying to get back into the music industry. It’s a place that doesn’t stand still. And she suddenly found that there didn’t seem to be a place for her.

‘[Evolution] is coming out the other side of a lot of stuff. Even the title Evolution is like we’re still evolving, As a planet we’re still fighting with each other, we’re still in a confused harmony. The world isn’t giving us time to adjust. Here I am at nearly 50 and I’m like ‘they’re swiping before they know how to say mummy and daddy, this is crazy.’ I’m like wow.’
Evolution is her seventh studio album, following on from 2014 Resurrection, a record which in comparison she says sounds like ‘a different Anastacia.’ But it nearly didn’t happen.

Anastacia reveals she felt like she didn’t ‘fit’ in the music industry anymore.
Anastacia found making a comeback tough ‘I didn’t feel like I fit in [the music industry] anymore,’ she told us. ‘People were auto-tuning a lot of their voices, and if it wasn’t auto-tuned then a rapper was on it. ‘It just felt like where music was going everyone was getting less like they sounded like themselves, and getting more naked at the same time! ‘Even Pink, it took her five years to come back. Therefore we needed to take a break.’

However, now she’s come out the other side, she plans on a huge celebration for her 50th next year.
‘I’m turning 50 next year and instead of being ‘oh no’ I’m going to have the biggest party ever! I’ll probably be on tour, 50 is going to be the new 15, and we’re going to have a blast. All the women at 50 are going to feel fabulous.’

Evolution is out now.
